Fusion dance is an expression which is most intricate and one of the most admired art form. Fusion dance may employ any dance forms, techniques and arbitrary combination of techniques associated with any kind of music. It does not stick to any particular defined dance forms, combines different dance styles and creates a whole new aesthetic vibe. Also the music may influence the choice of a dance form or style of a fusion dancer.
Orlane Dede and Usha Jey, Paris-based duo’s fusion of hip-hop and Bharatanatyam dance video has taken social media by storm. They are winning hearts on social media for their performance that features elements of hip-hop and Bharatanatyam. The duo call it ‘HybridBharatam’ and blend classical Bharatanatyam moves while dancing to ‘What’s Poppin’ by Jack Harlow. Usha Jey who choreographed the dance routine, said that this is her way of mixing 2 styles that she loves the most. Hip-Hop will always be her first love, but she has a big affection for Bharatanatyam. She said- " I am not an expert of Bharatanatyam yet, but I will be,”.

Now a days Ed Sheeran’s(an English singer-songwriter) ‘Shape Of You’ is rocking the chartbuster in India as well as overseas like crazy. Shakti Mohan, winner of Dance India Dance 2's who is a trained Bharatnatyam and contemporary dancer manages to win audiences hearts with her exceptional dance skills and flawless moves. She shared a video of herself dancing with her childhood dancing partner and sister Mukti Mohan on the Carnatic Mix classical version of the popular song 'Shape of You'. The dance form which can be seen in the video is a fusion of contemporary and Bharatnatyam. Audiences will not be able to take their eyes off from these graceful dancers and their video will leave the viewers wanting for more.
