 Kolkata gets its first hanging restaurant - Biswa Bangla Gate

While Kolkata's food and culture enthusiasts are delighted, it now has its first hanging restaurant. Bishwa Bangla Gate, the entrance to this city of joy now has a restaurant which will give you a 360 degree view of the city, the first hanging restaurant in the city This oval shaped restaurant enters the 55 meter high Kolkata Gate at Rabindra Tirtha in New Town Starting in March 2017, the project was completed in a span of 20 months and with a huge budget  of 25 crores.

This steel and glass structure is a unique addition to the many wonders of the city and is designed with materials which make it resistant to all types of natural vulnerabilities
.
The gate was opened to the public by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on January 31. There are rooftop restaurants in several metropolitan areas but in India these hanging restaurants are one of a kind.



West Bengal Urban Development and Municipal Affairs Minister Firhad Hakim recently inaugurated the restaurant. It will initially be open to 50 people with a seating capacity of 72 people. A great dining haven, it will be open for guests from 7pm to 10pm, closed to the general public after entering the Biswa Bangla Gate.

Perfect for a romantic dinner with the rising night lights of the city in the background it gives you a terrific view of the city.

However, if you are not interested in a dining experience, you can also visit the Observatory which has a viewing gallery and will be open from 12pm to 5pm. For security purposes, it will allow up to 100 people at a time.
